What comes to mind when thinking about people who game and fashion items? Not the I play a video game here and there once every 3 years, but people that are more like “I play daily and got a raid to do tonight with my team to defeat this crazy boss”. Eyeglasses. Lord knows why but there seems to be the conception that “gamers” (and I use this term VERY loosely) wear glasses. I mean ok, I “game” and I wear glasses. Also I treated myself to a PS4 last year and my god all I can think is why did I wait so long? NEWho…eyeglasses. If you wear them you know the struggle of finding a reasonable priced pair that are (dare I say it) fashionable. Well in this day and age we have this thing called the interwebs and one of the formost brands out there now is Warby Parker. If you wear glasses you know all about this innovative brand, started by two guys out of an apartment looking to provide direct to consumers frames. And now they are almost cult classic. I mean these are sleek, classic and on trend styles. Plus they do good, buy a pair and a pair get donated. But how does this tie into gaming you ask? Weeeeelllllll…….
Enter Kill Screen. A Boss if you will of the gaming industry. Kill Screen (much like WP) was a start up that wanted to show why games are important culturally. But here is where why differ from traditional “gamer” mags, they actually provide high end reviews and content around culture, gaming, and design in general. With an understanding that games and gamers are diverse (I mean they have a 10 point vision statement!) they want people to understand that games are serious business. From all the press you could say that they are the Rolling Stone of gaming. I tooled through the site and lots of great stuff covered from news articles to reviews of games (even obscure stuff).
Now what do gamers who wear glasses struggle with? (Other than bad press about body types) GLARE! Dear lord that and the basic hipster black frames makes me cringe. Well Warby Parker and Kill Screen have got that remedied and it doesn’t require a quest or defeat of a level 40 boss. The two innovative brands have joined forces (kinda like Kirito from SAO) to bring us a limited edition style of frame. WP is using their classic Burke frames in (was there any other color option) glacier gray embossed with the KS logo. I mean LOOK at them, gorg. I love the hint of color and the shape of the frames and they look like there is enough surface area that I can see my entire screen while playing crucible, and take out opponents.
I mean how cool are these frames? Plus they are limited edition, and as a someone whose into gaming when you get that exotic or hard to find item you want every one to know. And that’s what makes these great, LIMITED EDITION!!! So peep the photos and let me know what ya’ll think about this collabo…which btdubbs drops today! .
