Fashionable Gaming (Eye See You)

What comes to mind when thinking about people who game and fashion items?  Not the I play a video game here and there once every 3 years, but people that are more like “I play daily and got a raid to do tonight with my team to defeat this crazy boss”.  Eyeglasses.  Lord knows why but there seems to be the conception that “gamers”  (and I use this term VERY loosely) wear glasses.  I mean ok, I “game” and I wear glasses. Also I treated myself to a PS4 last year and my god all I can think is why did I wait so long?  NEWho…eyeglasses.  If you wear them you know the struggle of finding a reasonable priced pair that are (dare I say it) fashionable.  Well in this day and age we have this thing called the interwebs and one of the formost brands out there now is Warby Parker.  If you wear glasses you know all about this innovative brand, started by two guys out of an apartment looking to provide direct to consumers frames. And now they are almost cult classic.  I mean these are sleek, classic and on trend styles.  Plus they do good, buy a pair and a pair get donated.  But how does this tie into gaming you ask?  Weeeeelllllll…….

Enter Kill Screen. A Boss if you will of the gaming industry.  Kill Screen (much like WP) was a start up that wanted to show why games are important culturally.  But here is where why differ from traditional “gamer” mags, they actually provide high end reviews and content around culture, gaming, and design in general. With an understanding that games and gamers are diverse (I mean they have a 10 point vision statement!) they want people to understand that games are serious business.  From all the press you could say that they are the Rolling Stone of gaming.  I tooled through the site and lots of great stuff covered  from news articles to reviews of games (even obscure stuff).

Now what do gamers who wear glasses struggle with? (Other than bad press about body types) GLARE!  Dear lord that and the basic hipster black frames makes me cringe.  Well Warby Parker and Kill Screen have got that remedied and it doesn’t require a quest or defeat of a level 40 boss.  The two innovative brands have joined forces (kinda like Kirito from SAO) to bring us a limited edition style of frame.  WP is using their classic Burke frames in (was there any other color option) glacier gray embossed with the KS logo.  I mean LOOK at them, gorg.  I love the hint of color and the shape of the frames and they look like there is enough surface area that I can see my entire screen while playing crucible, and take out opponents.

I mean how cool are these frames?  Plus they are limited edition, and as a someone whose into gaming when you get that exotic or hard to find item you want every one to know.  And that’s what makes these great, LIMITED EDITION!!!  So peep the photos and let me know what ya’ll think about this collabo…which btdubbs drops today!  .

Weekend Warrior

So the other day I wrote about going to dinner on Sunday with my peeps.  Well here is what I wore.  I know that I often just do posts about my work ensembles and want to switch it up a bit.  Casual and comfy is my weekend mantra as during the week I am usually in slack and blouses, I mean you see the blog posts.  BTW I  ❤ this tee from ASOS and I may just cry the day I have to retire it.  As a well endowed woman I find it challenging to get tops that fit my bust and are long enough to cover that little something extra I keep stashed around the middle.  It’s like cash in the mattress…W.E hahaha

Here are the deets

All Black OOTD’s (A few days in review)

So for today’s post I thought that I would bring you some of the outfits I wore this week.  As I’ve said before most everything is old and I re-wear clothes (oh the humanity!).  But because I take care of them they continue to live.  I took the photos on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to show you what my typical outfits look like.  Now because I live in NYC black is the go to option for most everything (see Monday and Wednesday) and let’s face it, it’s easy.  It’s like black is quintessential to being a NY’er. No other city does all black as well as NYC and in a city that is this dirty and grimy black is it. I found a great article that I think sums it up from The Cut.  “We wear black because we’re not tourists here to see a show; because we are, in a sense, with the band. The band is New York, and the color is black.” As they say, all black eurrything….

Friday is all about jeans and my new top from Banana (Yea I treated myself gurl).  Now mind you all week I have rocked my little anorak jacket from Old Navy that I bought like 6 years ago.  Best $5 spent and like all things, take care of your stuff and things will last.

My point is this invest in quality pieces (take your cues from Europeans) and layer in fun throw away pieces that are trendy.  Not only does it make dressing easier but it’s fiscally sound and leaves you more money to go do shit like eating with friends, movies, and the stuff people do.

So here is the run down

All the jewelry is mostly Chloe+Isabel with some personal pieces

Clothing is a mix of Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, LOFT, New Balance and Aldo Shoes because guess what at a certain point you know what brands work with your body type and these are it.

All my photos are taken with my trusty iPhone because guess what I don’t have anyone to take them for me.  But I like to think you , my readers, are ok with that because guess what…it makes me normal like you.  I also don’t filter anything or retouch I want you to see the real me.  Now I want to go on a shopping bender…FML #adulting sucks

A One of A Kind Shoegasm

So in my trolling of all things website window shopping (mainly via Pinterest) I came across this company called Spring.  So trolling for things I don’t really neeeeed but would like, I came across these shoes (# to the OMFG) and I was like BAM mama needs these in her life stat!  So click, end up seeing that they are made by a brand called Shoes of Prey….so click to the site and holy hot shit batman, the mother load!

The premise of the site is to design custom shoes…yes you read that right.  Shoes THAT YOU design! How freaking cool! If your like me, if i’m dropping more than $100 I need something that no every thirst trap, bucket or wanna be is going to be rocking.  So naturally I’m sold and I haven’t even created a pair.  Think pumps, flats, stilletos, wedges, its endless.

So you go to the site (here) and they walk you through creating a pair of shoes just for you. It’s a 3D designer and you select the shape, colors and all that jazz that will make these uniquely yours.  I mean they also have some standard issue styles that you can scoop up, but COME ON making your own?  Yes please.

So I for one may treat myself to a pair of one of a kind Jessica shoes.  Check it out and let me know what you think or if you design your own!

Brunching In Maysville

So in an effort to bring you more content I went brunching this past Saturday with a friend.  We went to Maysville over on 26th in the Flatiron area and I must say, its definitely a little gem.  Pretty obscure as there was just a small sign above the place, very kinda speak easyish.  Which given that they are a whiskey joint (also a huge part as to why I picked it).  So the interior is very straightforward with the exception of the bar, which kind of made me think of the grand bars you used to find say circa 1940’s and earlier.  Wood, marble and glass to give it that refined industrial feel, which if you read the ditty on the site its named after the port that shipped out some whiskey.

So my friend ordered the Chef’s breakfast which entailed eggs and meat and I got the French toast.  We both had been drinking the night prior so we needed some heavy starches to bind to the alcohol.  I got regular coffee which had a nice chicory taste, great to cut though the syrup.  I topped off my meal with roasted potatoes, and sweet babay jesus they were soooooo tasty.  The French toast was a thick brioche covered with ricotta and fruit compote.  Super tasty and flavors worked well together and it was more than enough to leave us filled.  And did I mention the potatoes?  Must be an Eastern European thing, because I can’t get enough of potatoes, and these were small reds roasted with a hint of salt. Like I would go back just for those bad boys.

Overall we both agreed we’d go back as it was super chill and the ambiance was pretty low key which is nice.  Plus the food was delish so I’d say 4 out of 5 forks.  So if you’re in the Flatiron area go peep it.

OOTD 4/20/16

Well happy 4/20 peeps!  Today’s outfit is brought to you by the crazy weather in NYC.  Today is sunny and nice, nice meaning its above 50 which for many NY’ers means shorts and tanks, sadly my blood beez a bit to thin for that madness.  So I am currently working at Century 21 Stores (peep it here) and they have inspirational quotes all over the office which is great. So today’s motto is “Follow Your Dreams”.   Know what helps with that?  A bold red lip.  I don’t know about you, but I feel invincible when I put my red lips on.  What helps you feel invincible?
