Its Friday, which means payday, casual work attire and start to a weekend of netflixing. Oh and its April fools… I’m sure like many of you, I wake up stare into the abyss known as my closet and think I have nothing to wear. Yet there are hangers full of items. I mean I still need to be fairly profesh ya know? So button downs and blouses are my staples, and I usually wear them on weekends. I’m all about versatility and need items that can do both. Plus mama’s on a budget so what’s old is new again! I wish I could say April fools, no budget for me.
So spring is almost here and that means a wardrobe change, a restyling of self, and things that I’d like to buy. As I’ve gotten older it’s become more important to invest in quality pieces than to constantly buy disposable goods. Ironic considering that I work in the fashion industry and that is the model it operates on. Now there are some good sites if your into sustainability and being a conscious shopper (Zady anyone?) and of course luxury brands. I wrote awhile back about a movie called True Cost and it realty impacted my thinking about shopping for clothing. I’ve never been opposed to spending more to have a quality item that will last, as it makes more financial sense. I’m sure that many of you notice how often the same items make it back into blog posts. Lets face it unless items are being gifted or you make 6 figures you really can’t afford to be buying new items for each day.
So now that I’ve ranted a bit, here are some of the items I’d like to add into my closet this year. I know that many of these items will have a strong ROI (return on investment) if taken care of and they are core staples. It’s all about that foundation, so invest in good core pieces (even accessories) and they will take you into the next 5 or long years. I mean I bought a basic coach leather bag yeeeeeeeears ago, and guess what I take that bish everrrrywhere…so heres my haul for 2016…
Last night I went out to cafe el presidente with my peeps and this is what I wore. I feel like I’m always giving you guys week day looks but never my weekend looks. As you can tell I’m super casual on weekends, no makeup no fluff. I also got in my new bracelets from E.Kammeyer and I ❤️ them! So as you can tell weekends I’m a jeans and t shirt kinda gal.
If your in the flatiron area check out Cafe El Presidente as the guacamole is on point as well as the crispy fish tacos.
A few days late and few dollars short. I really wanted to get this up on Tuesday but we see how well that worked out…Ok so here’s Monday OOTD. Of course I felt like wearing a skirt right when a cold blast starts on the east coast. You know tell your girl your thoughts about the post. Here are the deets
Remember a few weeks ago when I told you about this app that I found called Nail Snaps? You can create nail art using images and do it via an app. Well I finally tried them. Disappointed. Maybe it was my application skills but I just took them off after just 12 hours.
Now let me say, the packaging it super cute, easy enough to apply. Two sizes regular and petite. Peel and stick, like how can you eff that up right? Well first I had to get tweezers to take them off the sheet. Then I applied them, so far so good, pressed down filed the ends to remove the excess…..and then it got bumpy. So the edges became warped and the sides did some weird lifting. Because it has to be a specific applique I think as you file it pulls and makes the ends bubble and warp (or its me in my infinite slowness).
Now I love the idea, the application couldn’t be any easier, but ragged ends…. Oh no hunty! The second best part? It peels right off! So while running some reports I pulled the bad boys off and no more rough edges for this girl.`I do have another set, so I guess I’ll give it the old college try?
Or go back to being basic……and getting a mani the old fashion way
P.S I peeped the video on the site, and I’m slow….
So with fall around the corner…ok who am I kidding it’s here in NYC. It’s time to transition from summer gear to fall/winter gear and that means heats, beanies, and sunglasses. Sunglasses you ask. Aren’t those a summer item? No silly they aren’t. According to eye doctors everrrywhere you should wear sunnies year round to protect your eyes from sunburn (yea that’s right) and damage from the suns rays. And sunglasses are great with all the fall hat trends, I mean what better way to create some mystery than sliding on some shades. So I took to the internet in search of some great styles and came across Salt City Optics. They offer such a wide range of style on prescription sunglass it was hard to choose just ONE! Plus hello! Iris Apfel is on the landing page rocking some Kate Spade sunnies looking all fly, and I idolize that woman and her sense of style!
This fall I’m feeling some wide brim hats like this awesome one from Forever 21 (yea its men’s and so?) and cause I like the Indiana Jones look. And nothing goes better with the hat than a pair of Electric Av1 aviators from Salt City Optics. I feel like it gives me the right combo of rugged urban chic ya dig? Of course I’d love to mix it up with some bold sunglasses like these Tom Dodoma ones, in sea glass champagne (cause I like to be bold duh!) if I’m going for the wild west meets breakfast at Tiffany’s look that day. And to round it out with that boho look id probably layer it up with the malachite convertible necklace and the pave long bar necklace from Chloe+Isabel.
Then of course as it gets colder, because why stop at 30 Mother Nature, beanies and sunnies are another great combo. Beanies are fashionable and functional; they help keep that noggin of yours warm, so I’d go with something like this one from Nasty Gal. And to kick it up a notch I’d pick these Derek Lam Felix sunglasses in blue cause they’re haute and different. I’m loving the blue gradient into the stripes and that they are semi opaque, so its s subtle statement (course the nudes are pretty kickass too). And these Kate Spade Della’s would also be good for that classic cat eye beanie look. I like picking eyewear that’s bold and different, kinda like this Coastline Necklace from Chloe+Isabel. Plus Beanies are great casual items so really you could mix up and wear the aviators as well for a simpler look. And a basic beanie provides the canvas on which I decorate. (waaaaaaaaaaaay to much art school).
But these are some of my ideas, and we all know I go to the beat of a different drummer. Overall your sunglasses are the gate keepers to your eyes, which they say are the windows to your soul. So what does your gate say?
