All Black OOTD’s (A few days in review)

So for today’s post I thought that I would bring you some of the outfits I wore this week.  As I’ve said before most everything is old and I re-wear clothes (oh the humanity!).  But because I take care of them they continue to live.  I took the photos on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to show you what my typical outfits look like.  Now because I live in NYC black is the go to option for most everything (see Monday and Wednesday) and let’s face it, it’s easy.  It’s like black is quintessential to being a NY’er. No other city does all black as well as NYC and in a city that is this dirty and grimy black is it. I found a great article that I think sums it up from The Cut.  “We wear black because we’re not tourists here to see a show; because we are, in a sense, with the band. The band is New York, and the color is black.” As they say, all black eurrything….

Friday is all about jeans and my new top from Banana (Yea I treated myself gurl).  Now mind you all week I have rocked my little anorak jacket from Old Navy that I bought like 6 years ago.  Best $5 spent and like all things, take care of your stuff and things will last.

My point is this invest in quality pieces (take your cues from Europeans) and layer in fun throw away pieces that are trendy.  Not only does it make dressing easier but it’s fiscally sound and leaves you more money to go do shit like eating with friends, movies, and the stuff people do.

So here is the run down

All the jewelry is mostly Chloe+Isabel with some personal pieces

Clothing is a mix of Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, LOFT, New Balance and Aldo Shoes because guess what at a certain point you know what brands work with your body type and these are it.

All my photos are taken with my trusty iPhone because guess what I don’t have anyone to take them for me.  But I like to think you , my readers, are ok with that because guess what…it makes me normal like you.  I also don’t filter anything or retouch I want you to see the real me.  Now I want to go on a shopping bender…FML #adulting sucks

Oh Snap! My Nails

I’m sure at one point we’ve all gotten a  mani, heard about jam berry or tried to do DIY nail art.  But the problem is either time, ideas, or stuck with whatever is in stock. So the other week I was on a plane flying home to Arizona and was reading the AA magazine when I came across this article about nail art and this app call Nail Snaps.  Nail snaps allows you to take an image and have it printed onto adhesives for your nails.  Way frickn cool! So all you do is download the app, pick a design, size and adjust it and viola new nail art.  The cool thing is that you can be unique and do what YOU like versus having to pick from pre selected designs (BORING!).

So check out the page, download the app and get on your way to creating custom nail art.  I’m going to order and let you guys know how it all turns out! And if you join check me out!

District tap house

So thanks to my job, I get to leave early on Fridays (wooo hooo).  After hitting up a sample sale I met with my friend and we went to the District Tap House, which is right on 38thbetween 7th and 8th avenues.   If you live in NYC you know it was a torrential downpour last night, but away we went.  She sold me on the place by mentioning the food, and you all know I love to eat.  After all “feed”  is in the blog name….  newho
It’s a fairly nondescript exterior, but like most things in NYUC don’t be fooled by outside appearances…the inside was spacious, with high ceilings.  They are a bar but they do have tables in the back of the place, we waited for about 7 minutes before one opened up.  I should also mention the FIFA world cup is going on so the sound level was redonculous.  We got one of the cozy corner booths, and our waitress was friendly and attentive.  Now here comes the food part…….the menu was simple and straight forward but the dishes were all about fusion and retakes on classics.  There was duck tacos, flatbread with pork belly, skirt steak with sweet potato fries, beef fat fries (that’s next time) and the beer menu, well that’s another blog post but it was extensive.
I ordered the bon vivant, which was a combo of gin, grapefruit, basil and a few other things.  It was a new taste palette but I loved the basil. Delish!  For food we got beef buns, cheese flatbread, vegetable sliders, and my homegirl ordered the skirt steak with fries.  The buns came in the steamer and were composed of cucumber, spicy mayo, a red beef.  It was a good combo of spice and cool.  The flatbread had three chesses and came with tomatoes and arguala.  The veggie sliders had a chipotle mayo on multi grain bun.  I loved all of it and was impressed with the fairly healthy options offered.  The skirt steak was marinated and glazed and served with field greens and sweet potato fries.  The fries were the sweet to the spice of the marinate on the steak.
The ambiance was nice and laid back, noisy (but that’s a bar for you) and the beer and food selection covered almost all tastes.  The place provided a great respite from the weather and it right between times square and the garment district.   So if you like beer and retakes on classics this is a good stop.
I would give this 3.5 out of 5 forks.

Fall 50 for under $50

Thanks to yahoo! news and Pop Sugar they put together a list of falls top 50 items for $50 or under.  Which is great for me who is currently unemployed but looking to revamp my wardrobe.  Of course number 1 is the LBD which Zara has done for this fall.   It also seems like kitten heels are making their comeback this fall.  These are great wardrobe items and serve a great purpose for interviews.  And lets not forget statement necklaces (which of course I sell at my boutique) which can wake up any outfit no matter how mundane.  So click the link to see the slide show that popsugar put together.  Also dont forget to check out my e-boutique and I was featured again on dearandi.com again!
