A Different Kinda Beet

Hey there blogosphere! Long time no post huh? I know it’s been awhile but I wanted to tell you about this place I just ate at this weekend in NYC, called The Little Beet Table.  Now I discovered this place via Instagram and immediately thought of some peeps I know that are gluten free.  Have a friend in from AK made this a great occasion to try it.  If you have ever tried to eat a GF diet you know it can be a bit challenging to find places let alone dishes that met your dietary requirements.  Some people have to for health reasons, but I am not a health blog so about this place…

The Little Beet is located along Park ave, nestled between building and fairly non-descript. The premise is that the menu is influenced by what is in season and healthy vegetables and whole foods.  (Not going to lie I was a bit dubious, until I looked at the menu and was sold on the sweet potato toast)  The interior is the same, simple and straight forward.  Menu covered the basics and then some, and don’t worry meat eaters there are some meats on the menu.

So my friend and I went in and ordered the banana bread with hazelnut butter, sweet potato toast, maple French toast and the roasted sweet potatoes.  Course I love me some taters (in like any format) so I was like a pig in shit.  Not only was the service friendly and on point so was the food.  I mean honestly I think neither one of noticed that we ate a mostly vegetarian meal.  The banana bread was delish, light, creamy and not to banana-y if you know what I mean.  My French toast was AHHHHHMAZING, covered in syrup and crème fraiche.  I think they used the banana bread as the base and I’m mad I never thought of it.  I also got the roasted sweet potatoes with sea salt and olive oil.  HOLY COW, I think it will be my new go to for cooking them.  Everything was fresh, clean and seasoned just right and not over powering.

Overall I’d say 4 out of 5 forks, simply because of the sweet potatoes.  Even if you aren’t GF give it a try and see before you knock it.

LuLa Roe LUX OOTD 8/24/16

So here we are again….Wednesday and me feeling bad that I’m not doing more blogging.  I mean I do have the time, but real talk I’ve been feeling super blah and lazy.  And you know whats great when you feel that way?  A dress.  Yes a freaking dress.  Its the easiest piece of apparel to just throw on, add accessories (as seen in photos) and go.  So before I devolve and start venting here are the deets.

Weekend Warrior

So the other day I wrote about going to dinner on Sunday with my peeps.  Well here is what I wore.  I know that I often just do posts about my work ensembles and want to switch it up a bit.  Casual and comfy is my weekend mantra as during the week I am usually in slack and blouses, I mean you see the blog posts.  BTW I  ❤ this tee from ASOS and I may just cry the day I have to retire it.  As a well endowed woman I find it challenging to get tops that fit my bust and are long enough to cover that little something extra I keep stashed around the middle.  It’s like cash in the mattress…W.E hahaha

Here are the deets

All Black OOTD’s (A few days in review)

So for today’s post I thought that I would bring you some of the outfits I wore this week.  As I’ve said before most everything is old and I re-wear clothes (oh the humanity!).  But because I take care of them they continue to live.  I took the photos on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to show you what my typical outfits look like.  Now because I live in NYC black is the go to option for most everything (see Monday and Wednesday) and let’s face it, it’s easy.  It’s like black is quintessential to being a NY’er. No other city does all black as well as NYC and in a city that is this dirty and grimy black is it. I found a great article that I think sums it up from The Cut.  “We wear black because we’re not tourists here to see a show; because we are, in a sense, with the band. The band is New York, and the color is black.” As they say, all black eurrything….

Friday is all about jeans and my new top from Banana (Yea I treated myself gurl).  Now mind you all week I have rocked my little anorak jacket from Old Navy that I bought like 6 years ago.  Best $5 spent and like all things, take care of your stuff and things will last.

My point is this invest in quality pieces (take your cues from Europeans) and layer in fun throw away pieces that are trendy.  Not only does it make dressing easier but it’s fiscally sound and leaves you more money to go do shit like eating with friends, movies, and the stuff people do.

So here is the run down

All the jewelry is mostly Chloe+Isabel with some personal pieces

Clothing is a mix of Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, LOFT, New Balance and Aldo Shoes because guess what at a certain point you know what brands work with your body type and these are it.

All my photos are taken with my trusty iPhone because guess what I don’t have anyone to take them for me.  But I like to think you , my readers, are ok with that because guess what…it makes me normal like you.  I also don’t filter anything or retouch I want you to see the real me.  Now I want to go on a shopping bender…FML #adulting sucks

Friyay OOTD 4/1/16

Its Friday, which means payday, casual work attire and start to a weekend of netflixing. Oh and its April fools… I’m sure like many of you, I wake up stare into the abyss known as my closet and think I have nothing to wear.  Yet there are hangers full of items.  I mean I still need to be fairly profesh ya know? So button downs and blouses are my staples, and I usually wear them on weekends.  I’m all about versatility and need items that can do both.  Plus mama’s on a budget so what’s old is new again! I wish I could say April fools, no budget for me.

What about you readers? Are you able to make what’s old new again?  And happy April Fools and maybe your pranks go off without a hitch….

Crew love

Last night I went out to cafe el presidente with my peeps and this is what I wore. I feel like I’m always giving you guys week day looks but never my weekend looks. As you can tell I’m super casual on weekends, no makeup no fluff.  I also got in my new bracelets from E.Kammeyer and I ❤️ them! So as you can tell weekends I’m a jeans and t shirt kinda gal.

If your in the flatiron area check out Cafe El Presidente as the guacamole is on point as well as the crispy fish tacos.

Thursday’s OOTD 3/3/16

Yea it’s been awhile…

So recently I’ve made a crap ton of life changes including my job.  I got out of where I was at and have moved on to a better role at a better place and I’m excited to actually start learning things.  Plus I had some personal drama, and well you know how that can be…

Today I’m about that classic NYC chic, all black eurrrythang.  Although to really accomplish this look id need a Dylan Lex statement necklace (like the one Bey rocked in Formation??).  So here are the deets

Top Macy’s (old)

Pants Alloy Apparel

Jewelry Chloe+Isabel

Shoes Alloy Apparel (old)

Alloy is one of the few places that has black denim year round and in a variety of sizes,  However the rise sucks, and I’m always pulling up my pants.   But at $15 bucks I guess I can’t complain too much right? So now that I’ve changed my life direction hopefully I can be giving you guys some more of my awesomeness via social media.  So hit like, maybe drop a comment and peep me on the social scene!
