Creatures of Comfort

Professionalism.  Dressed to the nines.  Looking the part. These are phrases that one hears upon entering the work force, but in today’s age they don’t have the same meaning as they did 10 years ago.  How many times have you gotten dressed in your “professional attire” to only feel confined into something more restrictive than a boa constrictor?  Don’t get me wrong, I love the pulled together look of Joan Halloway (Mad Men?), Jackie Kennedy, Dior’s New look or almost every fashionista or blogger.  Plus most millennials are wearing jeans daily along with sneakers, so the expectation of what is professional is shifting.  But let’s not get it twisted, upper management is still the Gen X’ers who expect you to look put together.  However the sucky reality is that I work in an office and often over sleep.  So my mornings consist of pulling together an outfit and trying to getting out the door.  Sadly most women’s work fashion isn’t comfortable or very versatile.  This means time lost as you debate on what to put on, before prob settling on something you wore two days prior.  I mean have you tried to put on a satin top with pleats, and you’re busty? Black slacks that are cut for a size 6 fit model, not a real size 14? Or if you’re on your period just forget being comfortable. I mean what if there was a company that made COMFORTABLE work attire….

And then there was Betabrand! So in my ongoing search for great clothing that is a bit more conscious I discovered this great San Francisco based clothing company.  The brand crowd funds ideas (think yoga dress pants, travel gear, to a metallic yarmulke).  They help get the designs funded, and everything is customer driven (models, advertising, and even designers).  So in trolling the site I came across their women’s pants, more specifically THE dress yoga pants.  I mean what’s in a name? Shakespeare?  No idea what I mean?  Ok, lets spell it out, DRESS YOGA PANTS… fit+comfort+stretch=work day awesomeness. I mean whoever thought of this is genius.  Taking the best of work attire and blending with comfort.  (insert happy dance).  Plus they come in a multitude of colors and cuts.  BUT THERES MORE! So I got to stalking the site and noticed that everything they offer transitions from work, to casual to even travel.  Plus it’s all great staple items that I know you have for yeeears! They also have denim, dresses, skirts and tops!  Plus this is great as I’m all about supporting local business and Betabrand helps me to do that.  Which makes me think, do you even know how great these dressy yoga pants would be for dinner dates single ladies??? I mean DO YOU? (sorry tangent thought)

Now we all know that Monday thru Thursday we still need to keep it profesh and honestly you need a top for those pants right?  I found this great paw print top from Betabrand (and I ❤ cats) that would be great for a Monday meeting or running errands.  So then I got to website stalking and went to one of my fave sites, Ann Taylor.  And honestly Ann Taylor is giving me some life right now with the spring collection and the crossover between work and casual.  This Palm print top is great under a cardigan or blazer, but also great with jeans for casual Friday or drinks. I love pieces that are easy and versatile and can be layered, because how often does your office go from Siberia to Africa?

So don’t just take my word but head over and check out the collection of women’s pants (here) and maybe even invest in an upcoming idea and get a discount!  And check out all the great photos.

P.S I too do a yoga pose when opening doors, opens my Chi as well…oh and they have a men’s line as well BTDubbs

Uptown Brunch

So on Sunday a friend and I went to grab brunch in the up and coming Dyckman area.  Now if you know anything about the city you know that about 5 years ago NO ONE went above 140 for living or food.  However like all things, it’s changed thanks to gentrification so there are lots of spots cropping up and it’s the place to live.  So my friend recommended a place called papsitos right on the corner of Dyckman and Broadway.  They offer a brunch buffet and unlimited mimosas for 1.5 hours.  By all outward appearances it seems like a good spot and they offer outdoor seating for summer time.  Inside its packed tightly so be prepared not to have much wiggle room.  I got the mangu and some fruits from the buffet, while my compatriot got eggs benedict, French toast and some other sides along with mimosas.  The food wasn’t all that bad, however they don’t serve COFFEE!!! Like what kind of Spanish food place are you and not serve coffee???  Does your abuela know? So first major drawback, second was personal space allowance.

I’d give this place a 2.5 forks out of 5 as it’s a cute neighborhood spot but the service and presentation needs some serious work.  Also they don’t have an official website so you can Yelp them for reviews and photos.  It seems that the regular menu fares much better than the brunch, so if you go let me know.

Things I’m Crushing On

So spring is almost here and that means a wardrobe change, a restyling of self, and things that I’d like to buy.  As I’ve gotten older it’s become more important to invest in quality pieces than to constantly buy disposable goods.  Ironic considering that I work in the fashion industry and that is the model it operates on.  Now there are some good sites if your into sustainability and being a conscious shopper (Zady anyone?) and of course luxury brands.  I wrote awhile back about a movie called True Cost and it realty impacted my thinking about shopping for clothing.  I’ve never been opposed to spending more to have a quality item that will last, as it makes more financial sense.  I’m sure that many of you notice how often the same items make it back into blog posts. Lets face it unless items are being gifted or you make 6 figures you really can’t afford to be buying new items for each day.

So now that I’ve ranted a bit, here are some of the items I’d like to add into my closet this year.  I know that many of these items will have a strong ROI (return on investment) if taken care of and they are core staples.  It’s all about that foundation, so invest in good core pieces (even accessories) and they will take you into the next 5 or long years.  I mean I bought a basic coach leather bag yeeeeeeeears ago, and guess what I take that bish everrrrywhere…so heres my haul for 2016…

Last night I went out to cafe el presidente with my peeps and this is what I wore. I feel like I’m always giving you guys week day looks but never my weekend looks. As you can tell I’m super casual on weekends, no makeup no fluff.  I also got in my new bracelets from E.Kammeyer and I ❤️ them! So as you can tell weekends I’m a jeans and t shirt kinda gal.

If your in the flatiron area check out Cafe El Presidente as the guacamole is on point as well as the crispy fish tacos.

Thursday’s OOTD 3/3/16

Yea it’s been awhile…

So recently I’ve made a crap ton of life changes including my job.  I got out of where I was at and have moved on to a better role at a better place and I’m excited to actually start learning things.  Plus I had some personal drama, and well you know how that can be…

Today I’m about that classic NYC chic, all black eurrrythang.  Although to really accomplish this look id need a Dylan Lex statement necklace (like the one Bey rocked in Formation??).  So here are the deets

Alloy is one of the few places that has black denim year round and in a variety of sizes,  However the rise sucks, and I’m always pulling up my pants.   But at $15 bucks I guess I can’t complain too much right? So now that I’ve changed my life direction hopefully I can be giving you guys some more of my awesomeness via social media.  So hit like, maybe drop a comment and peep me on the social scene!
